Many people have seen the devastating images of the flash floods in Valencia last week. In the city we are lucky enough to be largely unaffected, the main damage is to towns in the north and a large area to the south of the city. Sadly many people were trapped by the sudden surge of water and lost their lives. The military and emergency services are still working through the wreckage.
Mat took part in the clean-up effort yesterday at a secondary school and was able to witness the destruction first-hand. It will take many months for these areas to return to any level of normality. Immediately after the floods, there was a critical need for drinking water, food, clothes and blankets. The people of Valencia are showing incredible solidarity, making donations and carrying provisions and equipment on foot to the affected areas and taking part in the clean-up. Their generosity and compassion is incredible.
